Our truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel long wheel base. We got this truck used in 2005, and can’t recommend it enough. It has hauled us all over the Southeast in the 6 years we’ve owned it, with only minor problems. We had to replace a cracked radiator in 2008, and we had a new fuel pump put on this Spring. Other than that, it’s been nothing but typical vehicle maintenance. It has some cosmetic issues – mainly the cracked and peeling clearcoat. We knew that when we bought it, and it doesn’t bother us much. We’ll get it repainted at some point.
Before this trip, we had a standard folding truck bed cover, but we needed some extra outside storage so we bought a used Leer truck topper. We are so glad we did or we wouldn’t have been able to carry everything we wanted. It has peeling clearcoat, which is kind of fitting because it matches the truck.
